State-of-the-art IT infrastructure rolled out to all branches – without interrupting ongoing banking operations
At a glance
The HVB Group is the second largest publicly traded bank in Germany, and one of the major players in Austria, where it is represented by the Bank Austria Creditanstalt. HVB describes itself as 'the bank at the heart of Europe', and has positioned itself as a leading banking network in Central and Eastern Europe. It has more than 66,500 employees, 2,100 branches and over 8.5 million customers, and offers a comprehensive portfolio of retail and corporate banking services.
HVBInfo, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hypo-Vereinsbank AG, is responsible for the HVB Group's entire IT infrastructure. Some 660 professionals in Munich, Hamburg and London keep the bank's mission-critical systems up and running.
HVBInfo provides all core IT activities, including desktop services, operation of the client/server architecture, and management of Web applications. This enables approximately five million online transactions to be processed each and every day within the HVB Group. Moreover, the workload is steadily increasing.

Challenge
HVBInfo was tasked with implementing a cuttingedge, standardized and flexible IT landscape for HypoVereinsbank Germany, in order to increase efficiency and reduce costs. HypoVereinsbank Germany is HVBInfo's largest customer within the HVB Group. In the past, the sales organization and bank headquarters used different software versions. The project, named HYPerPC, involved consolidating the applications landscape for the entire organization. Clients were upgraded from Windows NT to Windows XP, and servers were migrated to Windows Server 2003 with Active Directory (AD). This software was rolled out to 740 branches of HVB and of subsidiary VUW throughout Germany. It was important to ensure that ongoing operations at the bank's branches were not compromised, and that there was timely provision of desktop functionality.
Solution
To meet these requirements, EEC uses its existing databases together with the tracking database from T-Systems, or rather, with the system modules documentation and tracking system OS-FS (Online Service – Food Safety) and OS-CS (Online Service – Content Service). Also, all participants in the production and delivery chain – i.e. the users of the quality marks provided by the EEC – are represented in the system. These users authenticate themselves in the system and log on into the COS system via the internet in absolute security. Alternatively, they can also provide their information over the phone. Furthermore, socalled machine-to-machine communication solutions provide additional communication channels either via corresponding software interfaces to Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP systems) or via direct data connections.
Customer benefits
HVBInfo now enjoys a state-of-the-art, standardized IT infrastructure - and, as a result, significantly increased efficiency. The four-month rollout went very smoothly. And, because installation took place out of office hours and at weekends, ongoing business operations were not interrupted, resulting in complete customer satisfaction.
T-Systems' long-standing partnership with HVB, and close collaboration with HVBInfo, were key to the rapid, reliable implementation, and to the efficient and effective coordination of third-party organizations.
