Eye in the Sky

T-Systems has been involved in developing a high-tech traffic management system for large-scale events. The solution combines Floating Car Data (FCD) technology with aerial monitoring.

Developed and tested on the streets of Berlin, the Eye in the Sky has proved invaluable in helping the police, rescue services and event organizers to avoid getting held up by traffic. The groundbreaking project by a German consortium is the result of collaborative traffic research on an international scale.

The Eye in the Sky combines two different traffic monitoring strategies: T-Systems’ FCD technology and helicopter surveillance using special-purpose cameras from the German Aerospace Center (DLR). This overcomes any inaccuracies in the two separate data sources. The result is a real-time snapshot of the traffic situation in unprecedented high quality.

The project is a unique, ground-breaking approach to improving safety and security for large-scale events, or in the face of natural disasters or terrorist attacks. It enables government agencies to plan and respond to chaotic traffic conditions and emergencies more precisely and more effectively than ever before.
