Excellent outsourcing at DLR

April 28, 2010

The German Aerospace Center (DLR) and T-Systems receive the Public Private Partnership 2010 innovation prize for their ten-year ICT services outsourcing partnership.
In addition to looking at innovation, the jury also took efficiency and appropriate risk distribution between the partners into consideration. The “Bundesverband” (Federal Association) Public Private Partnership and “Behörden Spiegel” award the prize each year.
DLR and T-Systems' outsourcing project started in 1999 as a joint venture and became a private company ten years later at the request of the government. It took over all ICTICT
Information and Communication Technology. These two terms began to be combined in the 1980s to emphasize the growing convergence between the two technologies.
outsourcing services for DLR as well as ICT services for other scientific institutions. Jürgen Aumayer, Managing Director of T-Systems Solutions for Research (SfR), says, "Partnerships between the public sector and private enterprises also work for ITIT (= Information Technology)
Information Technology (IT) is a collective term for information and data processing and the hardware and software used for this purpose.
as long as you pursue the same goals and establish a reasonable framework."
T-Systems SfR is currently a full subsidiary of T-Systems. "We also showed that outsourcing IT and network infrastructures presents the more attractive financial alternative even in highly specialized areas."

Consistent outsourcing

Dr. Hans-Joachim Popp, IT manager and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of DLR, says, "The German Aerospace Center currently gets all of its basic IT services externally, making it a pioneer when it comes to modern IT sourcing for research institutes." The outsourcing partners plan to continue their collaboration. After winning a Europe-wide invitation to bid in 2009, T-Systems SfR will provide all basic IT services for DLR for another five years. The service spectrum ranges from telephony and standardized and highly specialized IT workstations to supercomputers and grid computing.
