A
Active Directory
Active Directory is a scalable, hierarchical directory service used for the centralized administration of all of a network's resources. It is a powerful tool that can handle networks of any type or size.
AMR (= Automated Meter Reading)
Automated Meter Reading is technology used to automatically collect consumption data from metering devices (water, gas, electric). The term includes remote meter reading.
APM (Application Performance Management)
Application Performance Management enables companies to analyze, monitor and optimize their global ICT structure. Data flow can be accelerated by up to 50 times with protocol optimization for applications that get transferred via a WAN (Wide Area Network). Errors can be identified and eliminated faster thanks to an end-to-end ICT monitoring feature. An ICT landscape that has been optimized like this is able to provide more efficient support for the business processes of globally active companies.

Abbreviation for "Business to Business" - i.e. business relationships between two commercial enterprises.
Basel ll/Basel 2 (= Basel Capital Accord)
Basel II refers to the sum of the capital adequacy rules proposed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in the past several years.
BOS radio network (BOS = German public safety and security agencies)
BOS radio is a private, mobile, VHF terrestrial radio service in Germany, used by public safety and security agencies.
Billing Solutions
Billing is the business process that involves creating and sending invoices to customers. It is a periodic process (usually performed monthly), which takes on particular significance in industries that handle huge amounts of invoice data, such as telecommunications, the power supply and insurance sectors. Billing solutions are services that support and perform invoicing processes for enterprises.

CAD
Computer-Aided Design: computer-assisted drafting, design and development in fields such as architecture, construction and engineering. CAD solutions are characterized by sophisticated graphical capabilities.
CI/CD
Corporate Identity/Corporate Design. The Corporate Identity (CI) is the persona of a company – the corporate personality representing the totality of a company's characteristics. The idea behind a CI is that companies are perceived to have personalities and can act accordingly. A CI typically includes an organization's core culture and values, in-house vocabulary, and behavior guidelines. CI is closely associated with Corporate Design (CD), which defines the company's easily recognizable visual identity, e.g. in the form and use of logos, letterheads, standard layouts for brochures, etc.
CISCO
Cisco Systems Inc. is the world's largest network equipment manufacturer. The company is particularly well-known for its routers and switches, which form large sections of the Internet backbone.
City FCD (= Floating Car Data)
Floating car data is a technique used to transmit traffic information from and to vehicles on the road.
CMS
A Content Management System (CMS) is a software system that enables the collaborative creation and editing of text and multimedia documents (content), and handles the organization involved. It is often used to manage Website content.
Corporate Governance
Corporate Governance guarantees that an enterprise is directed and controlled in a responsible, professional, and transparent manner with the purpose of safeguarding its long-term success. Corporate governance is intended to increase the confidence of shareholders and capital-market investors.

Data protection
Protection from misuse of personal information stored on electronic systems. The goal is to protect the rights (particularly rights to privacy) and fundamental freedoms of individuals with regard to automatic processing of their personal data.
DMS (= Document Management System)
A document management system is a database system used to track and store electronic documents. The term is often used for the management of originally paper-based documents by electronic means.
E
ECM (Enterprise Content Management)
Enterprise Content Management encompasses a range of technologies used to record, manage, store, archive and provide access to content and documents that support organizational processes. Each of the three terms of which ECM is composed has a special meaning in this context. "Enterprise" stands for company-wide, i.e. a standard, unified solution that can be used by all relevant employees. "Content" denotes all and any data, information, etc. residing in electronic systems. The term "Management" refers to the administration, processing and monitoring of systems as performed by a software solution.
EDGE
Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) is a technology used to increase data rates in GSM mobile telephony networks by introducing an additional modulation process. EDGE is an enhancement to GPRS to create E-GPRS (Enhanced GPRS) and of HSCSD (High-Speed Circuit Switched Data) to create ECSD (Enhanced Circuit Switched Data).
EDIFACT-Standard
Electronic Data Interchange For Administration Commerce and Transport (EDIFACT) is an electronic data interchange (EDI) standard that facilitates the electronic processing (in whole or part) of business transactions between enterprises from different industries and countries. The format is both hardware- and software-independent. EDIFACT messages are transmitted via standardized text files. The standard is maintained and developed by a UN agency. Cf. E-Government
Abbreviation for Electronic Government. An e-business application that supports electronic communications and collaboration with government agencies via the Internet or other networks (such as municipal networks), for the interactive handling of administration processes, for example. E-Government also includes electronic communications and collaboration between government bodies and comparable national institutions.
Energy supplier
An energy supplier is a company that either generates electricity and distributes it via the public grid, or supplies natural gas or district heating.
Enterprise Mobility
Enterprise Mobility is a term used by T-Systems for a whole range of mobile ICT solutions designed for businesses, which support various types of mobility.
ENX
The European Network Exchange is a multinational, inter-company communications platform for the automotive industry.
ERP
Enterprise Resource Planning encompasses planning, management and control across the value chain, with the goal of optimizing the deployment of resources for corporate processes. This task is facilitated by special ERP software.
Ethernet
Ethernet is a cable-based data-network technology for local-area networks (LANs). It enables data exchange between all devices connected to the LAN (computers, printers, etc.). While traditional Ethernet networks were restricted to a single building, the technology is now also used to connect devices across great distances.
