Digital task force
January 28, 2010
Police, fire department and rescue units will have their own, tap-proof radio network by 2012. T-Systems is helping ten German federal states set up and operate digital radio for security officials.
Most German federal states have already started setting up digital radio for the German emergency service (BOS). Although it is known as "police radio" throughout the country, fire departments, rescue units, technical relief units and other security organizations use the BOS digital radio as well. T-Systems is helping ten federal states with everything involved in setting up the security radio – states include Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Thuringia.
Tool kit for secure radio network
While the German Federal Government is setting up the central connection network for digital radio, the federal states are each responsible for the infrastructure in their own area. The Telekom subsidiary came up with a flexible solution and service offer for the digital "police radio." With this offer, the security networks that the federal states need so they can hook up their radio stations can be provided and operated as needed. Upon request, T-Systems will also help the federal states set up and operate the control centers for BOS radio. The company will provide special encryption components for the control centers that will make transmissions sent to on-site task forces and relief units tap-proof.
