CeBIT 2010: Higher with T-Systems

March 03, 2010

Some 9,000 planes pass through German airports daily. A central solution ensures all employees are equally informed in case of delays, allowing them to offer better service to passengers.
On-time departures and arrivals are essential to the image and profitability of an airport. At many airports around the globe the departments of airports, airlines and external service providers involved in processing a plane – such as air-traffic control, dispatching, catering and cleaning companies, the police, customs, etc. – only have information provided by their own applications. Even during the ITIT (= Information Technology)
Information Technology (IT) is a collective term for information and data processing and the hardware and software used for this purpose.
age, employees are still finding out about sudden changes in plans via the telephone or through word of mouth. This can quickly result in misunderstandings, which prevent quick, seamless processing.

Joint decisions

This is why T-Systems is installing a solution for so-called Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) at several European airports. CDM brings airport and airline employees as well as all service providers to a virtual round table. The encrypted data of all companies are incorporated into the central airport database. Based on this information, those involved assess on the screen all events that could impact operations and jointly decide what to do next. The CDM solution also generates statistics about ground handling and gives tips on continuously improving processes and the best possible use of all resources – check-in counters, baggage zones, ramp areas vehicles, buses, escalators, personnel, etc.
