No surprises when buying a car
April 29, 2010
Rude awakening: The so-called bargain in perfect condition breaks down the first time you drive it. A T-Systems database has been developed to put an end to this.

Spring time is the high season for the used car market. And the number of people who get cheated increases as well. The shiny metal and other materials are often a cover for technical defects and rigged mileage indicators. Does this only happen to used-car buyers in Germany? No, it also happens in other countries; in Spain, for example.
Digital résumé
Spanish traffic authorities and the technical inspection agency want to put an end to this. T-Systems has developed a database for car résumés for the DGT, Dirección General de Tráfico, and the ITV, Inspecion Tecnica de Vehiculos, precisely for this reason. The technical inspection authorities will be able to access data for more than 30 million vehicles online. The DGT creates a web file as soon as an owner registers his or her car for the first time. In addition to information on technical inspections, this file includes everything relating to the car during its lifetime. The file contains the car's age, mileage, damage from accidents, repairs and even orders of attachment. This information is then also made available to professional dealers and private buyers. Even though the digital file won't eliminate fraud, it will certainly offer additional protection to help people avoid making the wrong buying decision.
