    Digital care guaranteed

    November 14, 2007

T-Systems will set up the network for the electronic health card in Germany. Doctors, pharmacists and insured parties will use the network to exchange data via highly secure broadband connections.
T-Systems has won two Europe-wide bids from gematik (Gesellschaft für Telematikanwendungen der Gesundheitskarte). T-Systems will connect all participants from the healthcare sector to the central network for the digital health system via an MPLS backbone. The MPLS technology will enable the transmission of voice and multimedia data via a shared network while giving priority to the most important data. In addition, the Telekom subsidiary will take on responsibility for an access service to the future health network, via which doctors will have access to applications such as electronic prescriptions, for example.
T-Systems is demonstrating how doctors will be connected within an integrated care system according to gematik's specifications in a model project with Deutsche Rentenversicherung Knappschaft-Bahn-See. Within the scope of the "prospeGKT" project, 20,000 insured parties will receive an electronic health card. Around 50 doctors will participate in the project with an electronic health professional card. As the general contractor, T-Systems will adhere to the specifications of the German Ministry of Health as well as to those of gematik and will connect all of the participating doctor's offices and a hospital with each other.
