The right service provider is crucial
For IDC analyst Matthias Kraus, transformational outsourcing is the key to more efficient and cost-effective business processes.

Today’s companies are under increasing pressure. Is outsourcing a solution?
Each company must decide for itself whether outsourcing noncore activities is a viable way to reduce costs, improve quality and drive innovation. In recent years, this model has become very popular in Germany. And in light of the current economic climate, IDC has recorded increased interest in outsourcing.

T-Systems has evolved its classic outsourcing offering to create transformational outsourcing. The model is designed to kill two birds with one stone: streamlining processes while cutting costs. Do you think this is possible?
Outsourcing helps companies save costs and operate their infrastructure more flexibly. And they can reap even more benefits by optimizing business processes. Transformational outsourcing helps unlock this potential. Again, the buzz words are standardization, automation and economies of scale. And as a result, processes become more efficient, reliable and cost effective.

Who does the new concept appeal to?
Over the last decades, almost all large corporations and other organizations have built up complex IT landscapes that are in need of modernization. Streamlining processes is especially important for businesses that are organized decentrally or internationally, or that have undergone significant restructuring – for example as the result of a merger or take-over. However, projects of this kind can only be successful with a professional service provider on board – one who has industry-specific knowledge, as well as consulting and process expertise.

A further key trend in the outsourcing market is cloud computing. In your opinion, how advanced are the current offerings?
Cloud computing became a hot topic during the course of last year. Now, new offerings are being announced on an almost weekly basis – although the term itself is often not clearly defined. As a result, the market is sometimes confusing. In a nutshell, cloud computing is about providing simple and flexible access to IT products and services via the Internet, including server and storage capacity, and storage or application software. T-Systems penetrated the market quite early on with its Dynamic Services offering. This solution enables organizations to respond flexibly to changing business requirements, while reducing operating costs. The key is standardized provision of ICT resources and services, for example on the basis of SAP.
